UK: op-ed, I’m running to be Britain’s first trans MP – of course I chose Labour

As a 50 year old equality campaigner, the first trans woman to work in the Premier League and the first transgender news anchor on European terrestrial TV, I’ve spent years struggling for equality. I’ve campaigned too for improved better mental health services – an issue which disproportionately affects LGBT people. Standing as a candidate in this election seems like a natural progression in my lifelong quest for LGBT rights.

That’s why I’m running as Labour’s candidate in the constituency of East Worthing and Shoreham. This election, we’re faced with the most illiberal and least pro-equality leaders of both the Conservative Party and the Liberal Democrats for over a decade. Neither Theresa May nor Tim Farron can be counted on to continue the fight for LGBT equality, despite paying lip service to the cause. Read more via inews
