Japan: Sexual minority group offers photo shoot with school uniforms

Transgender male Yurio Taketani always felt uncomfortable in school having to wear a school uniform for girls.

So, he's part of a group of students in Tokyo who will set up a booth at an event in the capital on May 6-7 for transgender people to pose for a photo wearing a school uniform they are comfortable with.

“What to wear involves a decision an individual has to make daily,” Taketani said. “We would like schools to allow their students to pick one, even if it is for a male or female, of their choice.”

The group said the event at Yoyogi Park in Shibuya Ward is aimed at raising public awareness of the stress that transgender students feel in donning a school uniform of the sex they do not identify with. Read more via Asahi
